Sergey é CEO da Interop Labs, co-fundador da Axelar e professor assistente na University of Waterloo. Ele tem interesse em construir primitivas criptográficas, protocolos e sistemas que possibilitam novas aplicações em ambientes não confiáveis e distribuídos. Obteve seu Ph.D. pelo MIT, onde foi bolsista Ph.D. da Microsoft, e obteve seu MSc e BSc pela UToronto. Sua tese de doutorado focou na criação de ferramentas criptográficas para a nuvem usando criptografia baseada em reticulados, pela qual recebeu o Sprowls Doctoral Thesis Award de melhor tese em Ciência da Computação no MIT. Ele fez parte da equipe fundadora da Algorand, onde esteve envolvido em vários aspectos comerciais e técnicos da empresa, e liderou o grupo de criptografia. Além disso, passou algum tempo no IBM T.J. Watson Research Centre.
