Sergey es CEO de Interop Labs, cofundador de Axelar y profesor asistente en la University of Waterloo. Está interesado en construir primitivas criptográficas, protocolos y sistemas que permitan aplicaciones novedosas en entornos no confiables y distribuidos. Obtuvo su Ph.D. del MIT, donde fue becario de Microsoft Ph.D., y obtuvo su MSc y BSc de UToronto. Su tesis doctoral se centró en la creación de herramientas criptográficas para la nube utilizando criptografía basada en retículos, por la cual recibió el Premio Sprowls a la Mejor Tesis Doctoral en CS del MIT. Formó parte del equipo fundador de Algorand, donde participó en varios aspectos comerciales y técnicos de la empresa, y dirigió el grupo de criptografía. Además, pasó algún tiempo en el IBM T.J. Watson Research Centre.
