Zhang Jieping is the Founder of Matters Lab, a new decentralised content platform based on blockchain technology. She was previously the Editor-in-Chief of Initium Media, the Executive Editor-in-Chief of iSun Affairs, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of City Magazine, and a writer for the New York Times Chinese Website and reporter for Asia Week. From to , she wrote extensively about governance, politics, and social movements in mainland China and Hong Kong. During her years as a journalist, she has received journalism awards, including the "Journalist of the Year ()" award from the Society of Publishers in Asia.
